To the OP... your definition is not what most people consider a redneck. Are you asking if ppl are prejudice in St. Pete or Tampa? No.. most ppl are not prejudice..

Antipathy is dislike for something or somebody, the opposite of sympathy.

Everyone seems to have a different meaning of 'redneck'.
Redneck refers to a person who is stereotypically Caucasian (i.e., white) and is of lower socio-economic status in the United States and Canada.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redneck

I see people asking this like everyone drives a beat up pickup truck with rebel flags and drinks blue ribbon beer on their front porch in their underwear.

Artsy Woman you really should explore other areas of Tampa. My suggestion is you should check out Westchase, S. Tampa, Avila, Country Way, Bayshore, Davis Island, Carrollwood, New Tampa and Wesley Chapel just to name a few.

In my 30 years of living in Tampa Bay I have lived and worked all over the Tampa Bay area from East to west Hillsborough to Fletcher and Florida from Carrollwood to Westshore. I also worked in Pinellas County. I lived in many areas of Tampa and I have NEVER lived next door to anyone who I would call a redneck. OH wait.. they lived next door to me and I was born in the south even though I have lived in many places and even in Central America, so I must be a redneck??? I don't own a pickup, don't have a rebel flag and had a good paying job. I don't hunt but I do like to fish, oh yeah I do drink beer now and then.

I worked in a company of over 500 ppl and 90% of the ppl were from the NE and midwest. The avg income was over 35K.

Honestly.. population in Tampa around 350K in 07 and that doesn't take in Pinellas or Pasco County. Most of ppl in Tampa are from the midwest or from the north, I guess they are the rednecks that have invaded Tampa?

In St. Pete Median gross rent in 2007: $797.
Percentage of residents living in poverty in 2007: 13.1%
(7.4% for White Non-Hispanic residents, 27.0% for Black residents)

Default Calm down....

My reason for this thread is that I'm a single gay man looking into possibly relocating to St. Pete....I just want to know how open minded people are in St. Pete...generally speaking..

I wont ask someone if there are lots of rednecks when moving to a new area although maybe.
In my experience, Tampa is more friendly to them than StP/Clearwater.
All over the us to an extent has rednecks tho. The deep south and Tampa to northern FL is just friendlier towards them.

For anyone who needs clarification on this go rent the movie "DELIVERANCE". That's redneck to the utmost extreme. Geez, that movie has got to be 30 years old or more and it still gives me the creeps...probably why you'll never find me wandering around swampland. I can't believe Burt Reynolds was in that movie!

"Are there alot of rednecks in St Pete?"

Are there any up north? Uh, of course. So what's the difference? All the redneck and FL native bashing gets old.

..Concrete Mixer, DryWall mud, Thank you!!...this has been an ongoing discussion on at least three threads here..and i myself don't quite get all the beef about the so labeled "redneck" portion of the Tampa/St. Pete's population...

..IMO,..i don't care what you enjoy in your "down" time...As long as you are out there contributing to your community, working hard and not just letting the rest of society support you...And ive known plenty of well educated, upstanding so called "country loving" people..many of whom were some of the nicest people ive known...

There are people of every class and creed who have plenty to contribute,..and plenty of the opposite, in every place ive lived...and, like ive said before,..its all about how you act..not just how you appear or what you rock out to..

Id much rather have a diversity of friends, employees, co workers, then just hang out with a group of people who likes sitting back and degrading or categorizing everyone else...and i myself enjoyed the diversity i noticed while people watching while in the area..Its something which makes the area very unique among other cities..and is something i want to teach my kids...

Besides, i myself never really fit into any one of the cookie cutter outlines...don't think they made a design for all of us heinz 57's out there..

Maybe this is why im not as judgemental as other people ive known, ..and always seem to attract more women...guess they like the sauce.. ..i dono..
I guess while some prefer to fit a shape,..i just prefer human being...

And yes..im sure there are gay "rednecks"..i used to work with a couple..and no, they did not have pink pickem' up trucks either...but they certainly were the life at a a few of our x-mas parties..more so then some of us boring ol' streight folk..

Now ..as for drag queens..don't quite get that one..
