Could this "study" have anything to do with the prescription drug problem in TN. You cant swing a dead cat without hitting someone that is taking anti-depressants. But that dosent necessarily mean they are depressed.

That's what I think. Tennessee has a huge prescription pill problem. I know so many people who just went to a doctor and said, "I think I'm depressed. I think I want to try Wellbutrin..." or whatever drug they saw on a recent TV ad. Rather than screen them for depression, oftentimes the doctor said, "We'll try Wellbutrin and if that doesn't work we'll see about Paxil."

I'd like to know if they surveyed prescription use. The article says they got info from the state mental health commissioner but combined it with medical conditions that "could" lead to depression.

Some people are fat and happy, you know.

Yet the article that ranked Tennessee the fourth happiest in the country got their information from a survey of 1.3 million people across the country by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It used data collected over four years that included a question asking people how satisfied they are with their lives.

Here's a fundamental rule: Wherever you go, there you are.
