Default trains

I was thinking about this the other day.
What about trains?
Do they run through some of the major cities?

I love hearing the late night distant whistle of a train as it passes through.

Are there any near outer Nashville? How about the rest of the state?

Oh my gosh. have you ever lived by a train track? I lived about 1/2 mile from a train for 5 years and though you just get so used of the sound, having things shaking in my home drove me nuts and forget about it waking me up every 3 hours at night. I'd like to know where the trains are too so i can avoid it.

Tnbound, we have TONS of "commercial" trains that go through our area (Chattanooga) every day. There is a huge freight yard close to "town". We also have a r/r museum which has excursions that go down into GA, blue ridge, ocoee... etc. We are big train buffs and lived near tracks most of our lives. During the warmer months, we chase the steam excursion down through historic Chickamauga and deeper into GA. It's a great area for trains here.

As a matter of fact... I have.
Not half a mile either, less than a 100 yards.
The trains would shake the whole building, kinda reminds me of an old I Love Lucy show I saw once... LOL...

We were only living in temporary housing at the time, waiting to move into our house.

But, no, I don't want to live next to the tracks.
I like to hear the train whistle when it's way out in the distance.
It has a real soothing sound.

Do you ever sit next to the tracks and watch the trains go by?

jkmewright, have you ever seen "The Station Agent"? It's a wonderful movie!

Quite a bit of train action, and it was mostly filmed down the street from where I live in Rockaway, NJ.

Your mention about chasing the train reminded me of it.

I'm with you. i wouldn't mind being able to hear them in a distance if i went outside but to have them in my backyard, ugh... that gets old.

We have freight trains running through many parts of East TN. You come across many rail road crossings on rural roads.

Growing up in New England there were so many rails that were no longer used. I still get a thrill when I see the trains around here. And the trains are so looooong. I don't mind getting stuck in traffic because I love watching them.

I love watching them too.
Have you ever walked across a train bridge?
Don't know if I would do it now, but, I did it a lot when I was a kid.
We never really thought about what would have happened if a train had been coming....
