As for the inheritance taxes, just plan your death for the end of 2010. That way you can pass on your wealth without taxes. Sadly, I bet more than a few people will pull the plug on grandma next year to avoid all the taxes.
Wow, Nanas & Papas everywhere should be alarmed and go into hiding. I figured eventually taxes & euthinasia would surface. What if evryone on City-Data got together and had a "TEA-PARTY" against taxation. Do you think the polititions would even notice? I recently read that the Europian Union member countries tax their citizens @ 45-56%. Looks like we are headed in the same direction no matter what state you live in. I think I am in a state of denial that our GREAT Country is slowly taxing us to death, just like the frog that refuses to jump out of the slow boil pot!!!!!

ACTUALLY we are considering a move so I was asking questions about "Taxes in Tennessee". Guess we got a little sidetracked, hey but sometimes that keeps things interesting and stimulates thought. Thanks to those of you who keep this forum interesting & stimulating!!

I don't think your original question belongs on the political forum, at all, and is certainly valid for the Tennessee forum. I guess I should have specified.

But you have an entire post that has nothing to do with Tennessee. I'd love to respond to it, but I can't. This isn't the political forum. That's not "stimulating."

But best of luck finding a second home in Tennessee.

Yes, lets keep on topic about how taxes would affect our move to Tennessee or a just second home there. Thanks!

I want to thank you for the sweet personal note that you sent me.

Taxes in Tennessee are very low. I pay about $1,300 in city and county taxes and that includes free trash, bulk, refuse pick up. My insurance is about $600, and I think I am over-insured! Auto for two cars is about $600.

The sales tax is very high and we pay tax on clothes and groceries, too, but taken all together we come out as one of the lowest tax burden states.

I think there is no tax on pensions, too?

It looks like the taxes where you live are low, too. But you can't beat the people and weather of Tennessee. I think you would beautifully fit in here.

I will have a monthly pension but my husband is on disability. He will be getting his profit sharing that we were going to use for our house in TN When he gets it we will have to pay about 20% tax on it here in FL, if we use it for our house in TN will we have to pay taxes on it again?
I want to say thank you to everyone on CD, you guys are so helpful and full of great info.

Continuing the "Taxes in Tennessee" saga. I am in the process of starting a loudspeaker business and am wondering if a sole proprieter would be a better way to go than an LLC in relation to business taxes. I considered registering in Wyoming but if we end up in the Nashville area in the next two years I would just wait as I am building all the prototypes right now.
Seems like when you get on the Gov't sites everything gets complicated by thousands of pages of tax code. Anyone with small business experience in Tennessee care to comment?

Where did you move to Johnnyboy? out of state or just out of the county? Seems like taxes will get you no matter where you go.
