AUSTIN — Immigration now is a wedge issue in Texas Republican politics - dividing the traditional conservative coalition, pitting social conservatives against hard-liners.
Evangelical ministers in Texas and across the nation are splitting off from the hard right, declaring immigration reform is needed that includes a path to citizenship without first deporting millions of illegal immigrants.

It's interesting to see evangelicals supporting an amnesty.

politics is gonna get interesting in the next few years, the two major parties have been stagnant for too long. They need to be shaken up some.

And its not just immigration they are divided on. The republicans are divided between tea partiers and non teapartiers and even the tea party is divided half busy talking about taxes while the other half is caught up on race nonsense.

Yet it was okay when business owners converted illegals into a cheaper form of labor helping their bottom line.

Sorry, Heimdall. I thought I was in the politics room. My apologies for such an assumption.

A lot of conservatives in Texas dont want immigration reform because the mass immigration from Mexico and Central America equals cheap labor.

Yeah, you can bet on that!...lol. I think a path to citizenship is needed. As many of you may recall, George W. Bush tried to pass such a measure, that John McCain supported as well. It was fairly tough. Illegal immigrants that wanted citizenship had to be placed behind those already legally pursuing citizenship for example. However, in the end it was shot down by those on the far right who didn't want "amnesty"

Well, when you really think about it, anything of any sort that rewards having entered this country illegally is not really the best option, IMNSHO. They broke the law to begin with, so I don't see that any amnesty or reward of any kind is in order.

But....the debate rages on....LOL!!
