My 4th grader usually aces these types of things and let's just say... she did not this time! The teachers warned us it might be ugly. I am sure she passed, but I am quite concerned for the kids that are not good at these types of tests.

I was just at my daughter's middle school picking up her transcripts for her new school (private) and I asked the couselor, but she didn't have the scores. I've been really curious myself as I had heard STAAR was more challenging than TAKS and that the teachers really had no idea what to expect. So glad to be done with these state tests!

We haven't gotten ours either. It may be next month before we hear anything. Luckily they won't count for anything this go round.

Yes, and I didn't even realize that. The counselor told me today.

Meet the new test . . . dumb as the old test.

Our word back was that our kid was done in less than half the time allocated, even after checking her work.

But at least after the tests were done, they let her start doing some actual math (not test prep, test prep, test prep) in the math class. For one week, that is. Then they did not do anything, and ended the year.

We are counting this last year in Texas Public Schools as a Total Loss.

Cess Pool of Ignorance.

My daughter's (4th) came back and she did better than expected. My son usually aces the TAKS, but his results are not in - we were told we'll have to wait until January for his.

We have a kid going into Mills Elementary next fall, so we are on their newsletter list and got this email on Monday:
Quote:
We just received the STAAR results for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Individual student scores will come home on Wednesday with the report card. As we have said before, the passing standard has not yet been determined, so students will receive a raw score of the number of items they answered correctly and the total number of items. [...]
They did post the school results:
(Test/avg. correct/total questions)
Reading - 3rd 34 40
Reading - 4th 36 44
Reading - 5th 38 46
Math - 3rd 37 46
Math - 4th 37 48
Math - 5th 40 50
Writing - 4th 31 44
Science - 5th 36 44

I am trying very hard not to give a you-know-what about any of this, but your averages suggest she did better than I thought based on the raw scores. The test must have been really difficult for kids to be getting so many questions wrong!

STAAR?

Is that what they're calling it now? It sounds even dumber.
