Patt Green was mentioned by 2 other people. (Although he's not one I personally prefer.)

My absolute fav. is El Paso by Marty Robbins. A true classic!

Default Texas songs

I agree with NOTAM, "Texas Bein Texas" is the best song ever about Texas. It is my personal favorite. I play that youtube video all the time...especially when I get a little homesick.

love Waltz Across TX --my husband and daughter almost danced to that at her wedding as the father/daughter dance--
but for the weirdest song about TX try this from the Rolling Stones

YouTube - The Rolling Stones - Bob Wills Is Still The King

Default The Top 10 of all Top 10's

Ten best songs about Texas ever. Period. No arguements.

In no particular order... drumroll...

1) Amarillo By Morning - George Strait --Greatest country music song of all time, as well as being a great song about TX

2) Texas Flood - SRV --Really, how can you not love this tune. Classic.

3) La Grange - ZZ Top --Greatness. If it comes on, you have to roll down the windows and crank it up. That, and it's based on a true story. RIP-Marvin Zindler

4) The Eyes of Texas - UT Band --Okay, I'm an Aggie fan and even I agree it's just special. I'll even turn on KVET on my computer around noon just to hear it.

5) Deep In The Heart of Texas - anyone (but Bob Wills if possible) --Mostly because it might be the most recognizable Texas song. And when played, who doesn't drop everything just to clap their hands and yell 'Deep in the Heart of Texas'

6) Luckenbach, Texas - Willie & Waylon --The only 2 things in life that make it worth living are this song and Shiner Bock.

7) I Like Texas - Pat Green --It just says it all.

8) Songs About Texas - Pat Green (written by Walt Wilkins) --The lyrics really do paint a picture of Texana.

9) The Front Porch Song - Robert Earl Keen (written by REK & Lyle Lovett) --For that note alone it belongs, but the great lyrics in the song that only real Texans understand.

10) London Homesick Blues - Gary P Nunn --I do wanna go home with the armadillo and good country music from Amarillo and Abilene.

I could list honorable mention, but that could go on for pages.

This thread can't die without the mention of Joe Ely and the late great Townes Van zandt. Two true texas originals.

Default Did THIS one ever come up?

Seems like there was a song from the 30's...

Beautiful, Beautiful, Texas? By either Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys...or the Light Crust Doughboys...what went something like:

Beautiful, beautiful Texas
Land where the bluebonnets grow
We're proud of our forefathers
Who fought at the Alamo...

You may live on the plains or the prarie
Or down where the sea breezes blow
But you're still in beautiful Texas
The most wonderful land that I know...

Ring a bell with anyone?

I'm pretty sure this song is by the Light Crust Doughboys. The reason why you might think Bob Wills, is because he used to sing way back in the day with them.
