I have a job offer in Texas City, TX. I currently live in Bossier City, Louisiana with my husband, 13 year old daughter, and 9 year old son. We are considering the move but would like to know more about the area. Would anyone recommend living in Texas City? Or would it be better to commute? I will be visiting the area this weekend and would like to know what areas to check out first. Thanks!

I used to live in Clear Lake I would recommend League City and just commute. It shouldn't be more than 30 minutes or possibly less.

I have done work in Texas City for years, off and on, and there are a few pockets of housing that I would consider, but only a few. I usually stayed on Galveston (had an apartment on there for years) so that I was up-wind for 95%+ of the time. I do not know housing costs there at all, though, and honestly don't remember the apartment cost since I expense reported it. Maybe $600ish for a 1/1 in a pretty nice area of Galveston?

Anyway, assuming you are going to have kids in public schools, I would look up I-45 in Webster, Clear Lake, Friendswood, et al. The traffic really isn't that bad at all on I-45, the schools are much better (generally) and you don't have a skyline dominated by chemical plants and refineries.

I second Clear Lake, Friendswood, League City, etc. Heck even Dickinson. There are some ok areas in Texas City, but that town has quite a few rough patches, too.

Texas City is a little industrial town, you don't want to live there.
You'll have a commute but the Clear Lake/Bay Area, which is southeast of HOU, is a much better choice.
