Metrogrades: The Drunkest Cities - MSN Health & Fitness - Stop Smoking

The list is kind of backwards with #100 being the drunkest city in the US. Maybe the compiler was drunk.

Austin and San Antonio the top spots in Texas, no surprise there. I'll bet San Marcos & New Braunfels are the same. I've never seen so much late night drunk driving as I have in those areas.

Definitely agree with you on the "other activities."

Trashed.

I think they exclude NOLA in a lot of surveys now.

I don't know if it's the universities so much... Texas is probably high on the list because of drunk driving. Our cities are too sprawling and auto-centric. Not driving home after a night of partying is a hassle to a lot of people. Could you imagine the cab fare from downtown to say, Clear Lake?? I know it's a big problem in Harris County. We need better public transport... well, then again, I see D.C. and Portland and some other anomalies are on the list... so that blows my theory out of the water. Never mind.

Portland is micro-brew beer capital of the USA. (I went to Bridgeport last month.) Real beer drinker's stuff right there. Shouldn't be any surprise that was on there.

Nope...I thought Portland would be higher. Maybe less heavy drinkers, but it's pretty acceptable to have say 2 pints of a micro-brew and then drive. Note that 2 pints at a restaurant is actually about 24-28oz, not 32, but because micro-brews have more alcohol...over twice as much as as the 3.2% beer they use as the legal standard has...that'll put the vast majority of people over .08 unless you take a couple hours to wait after drinking. Even one pint would put a lot of people, especially women, over the limit. And I have been in a situation where people were celebrating an occasion, drinking in the courthouse, including a judge, then, not sure if they were over the limit, drive home or to bars. We have lots of breweries, wineries, wine bars, bars, etc...not a surprise at all...

And our public transportation sucks except for those near a MAX (light rail) station.

The Bridgeport ''pints'' were 20 ouncers. Combine that with 6-7% alcohol and you'll be flying high in no time.
