View Poll Results: Aren't TX beaches in reality underrated?
Yes, they are no worse in and in some cases better than many CA and East Coast beaches 34 38.20%
No, they suck when comparing to FL, Hawaii, Caribbean, which is all I care about, so what about CA or the East Coast 55 61.80%

Meh, last time I was in Galveston I thought it looked better than I remembered but Texas beaches sort of suck. They're vastly underrated in the sense that people think they're the worst thing since breast cancer but they're ok.

The beaches in Corpus/Port A/Mustang Island/North Padre are my favorite beaches anywhere.I went to South Padre but I thought it was too isolated.I went to Galveston in July of 2008 right before Ike and it was okay.I went to San Diego once but it was too cold for me.I would like to go to Florida beaches someday.

In SD, for swimming, one is likely going on the warmest days only. Those very cool days are great for going down by the water and jogging/biking on the boardwalk, fishing, bonfires or other activities down by the water that don't involve getting wet. Before having kids, very rarely did I go to the beach to actually get in the water.

The warm Gulf Coast Texas waters are awesome for taking a dip every time during summer, actually, if you are not getting in the water you will feel very hot and uncomfortable because of the humidy. The bad side of the warm water is....jelly fish.

I dont swim at beaches even Texas ones.I remember it was 60 when I was in San Diego that summer afternoon.Heat dont bother me.I actually love it.I prefer extreme heat to any other type of weather.Ya my uncle got stung by a jelly fish onetime and I was at Port A and i nearly got stung by a man o war.

The humidity in Texas is great for swimming in pools and cool swimming holes. It makes the water feel so much better. I don't know about the beaches though cus they're pretty warm.

well the humidity makes the water hold in thermal energy longer.

Ah, yeah it's just such a refreshing experience going to the pool on a sunny 90+ degree humid day.

Been to Galveston Beach once. Everybody warned me prior to going that it was too nasty. I thought they were all exaggerating. Rented a beachfront house for a week. Never have I seen ocean water so brown and murky, or a beach so covered with seaweed. Never even got in the water. Florida or Mexico for me. Not a fan of California beaches either. If I'm speniding money to go to the beach I expect clear blue oceans.

The ocean water along the Atlantic Coast in states like NY, NJ, DE, MD, and VA is pretty murky as well... But unlike Galveston, they make up for it with pretty sand that's not completely covered with seaweed. The beaches there in general are so much nicer, despite the non-clear ocean water.
