New distracted driving ordinance starts Jan. 1 - Community Impact Newspaper That article was interesting. Only six states with no state law.

Texas didn't pass this law. It's in Austin and San Antonio for full hands free. It's not statewide. Other cities only have a no texting law, not a hands free law.

San Antonio started this as well. This is a good example of why I'm not a Libertarian. Unfortunately I don't believe people have enough common sense to not have to have lots of laws although I would prefer less govt interference. I've been watching lately and 90% or more of the people driving poorly and/or dangerously are staring at their phone. The others are more often or not messing with their cigarette and one lady had a phone in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Of course it's easy for me not to complain since I've had Sync on my last 3 vehicles.

I think eventually it will be in all 50 states, just like the seat belt law is. I honestly dont see how anybody can text and drive at the same time, unless they steer with their knees, but even then they have to take their eyes off the road in order to type. I would think a person texting while driving is as dangerous as a drunk driver; if not more so.

Yes, that's just it! No common sense.

Most of Europe has banned the use of cell phoneS in cars, Germany in particular, for many years. They do at least this, better than we do. First offense is 6 months without your drivers license, a large fine, 500 bucks, I forgot what exact amount my German friend said, as this has been 5 to 10 years ago.

Of course the technology to enforce this is out there, police can drive by you and determine if you have a cell phone on or not, one fine, if they can see the phone in use, a much stiffer fine. Results: Practically no one uses the phone: Further results: Fewer deaths, injuries, accidents, lesser care insurance costs, bring it on NATIONALLY !! Way overdue, I know Texas, will be last state, we were pretty much last, in seat belt use, back in the day...

Oh, I know that most anyone under 40 or whatever age, rather have their hand cut off than not be able to connect, ipod, mepod, upod or somepod way 30 hours aday 8 days a week. Later I will tell everyone what I really think. lol

You do realize some people can type/text without looking at their phones.. Right?
