I've been trying to get to Corpus Christi, but the pace and the crime have me a bit discouraged.

What about San Angelo? It also has a small university, as does Corpus Christi. And the lakes, which I believe are filling back up due to the rain.

I have to live near a body of water, and there has to be a college in the town, because of the needs of my family.

I have read over the older threads on San Angelo. Anyone have any more remarks about San Angelo? Is it friendly overall? Is it full of oil field jobs? Is it a place where a person can be odd and not be bothered because of it (most likely not bothered) - like if someone has Tourette's?

Many thanks, City-Data'ers.

It has oil jobs but less than a year ago due to the downturn. The Spraberry Trend is west of town near Big Lake so a lot of the workers stay in Angelo but other than that I don't know what formations are near there. There was big talk about the Cline in that area but that shale play prolly aint gonna pan out.I was in Angelo in March and Nasworthy was about 76 percent full.

Thank you, Westerntraveler. That's good news about the lake.
