We go one worse here. We say "Coke" for sodas, but we say "cold drink" for all sodas, too. Only we say it like "coal drank." Something that has been imported here lately is people saying "sweet tea." I'd like to give 'em a good slap upside the haid, what else kind of tea would a person be mentioning??? *laff*

The ice cream analogy is flawed. Using Coke is no different than Kleenex, Band-Aids, Kool-aid, or Xerox, which are all trademarked names that are commonly used for the non-trademarked brands of the same basic item.

Honey don't leave us wondering, what does "drank" mean in Houston? I lived in Houston, I thought it meant "drink." You mean al-kee-haul? An al-kee-haul drank? *laff* No thanks I'm having me a coke (dr. pepper).

Why do TEXANS refer to all soda as coke? Probably the same reason YANKEES call it soda or pop. Regional slang! And most Texans I know refer to a carbonated drink as a "soda water". Besides most Texans, I believe, Prefer DrPepper, not Coke!
