Austin has Oracle and Dell. Dallas has HPE. I prefer big companies like this.

I want to buy a house in that city and settle there for at least 7 years. So let's say I quit my job after 1 year, I want to be able to find a new one easily without having to relocate again. Thank you!

For employment and housing considerations alone, Dallas wins by far. You'll get so much more bang for your buck. Maybe not in Dallas proper, but surrounding cities.

Dallas also has Perot Systems which Dell acquired, Texas Instruments and a lot of Telecom such as AT&T but ATX is definitely the big Tech dog of the south.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Dallas core is NOT rotting. Ridiculous characterization. There has been BILLIONS of capital investment in the city property the last 15 years. Look at Uptown, downtown, The Design District and Trinity Groves, areas around Love Field, Love Field itself, new parks, new rail lines and new bridges!

I truly HATE postings that are general statements, i.e. backed by NO reasonable analysis! Do YOUR research! I've been to Detroit. In 1950, Detroit city proper had a population of 1.7 million and now has 700,000 residents! Dallas city population has increased every decade.
