Why are you wanting to go? KNowing why might help us give advice. Those are huge, sprawling cities that aren't uniformly crime ridden.

I've always wanted to venture out to a major city, I originally wanted to go to Houston but didn't realize how bad the crime problem was there, I ended up deciding to go to Dallas instead, I just love big cities.

Dallas is probably a little safer right now but that flip-flops regularly on a city level. Nothing to see here.

Both used to be nearly on the same level when it comes to safety, but seems like Dallas is winning nowadays.

That's over hype, aka blowing things way out of proportion, and a ridiculously misleading, inaccurate statement. Unless a person is looking for trouble or hanging out with criminal/ thuggish types, chances are he or she will be perfectly safe. Of course anything can happen anywhere at anytime, but overall, Houston and Dallas are not so dangerous a person shouldn't visit them.

You’ll likely be shot on sight. Bring your Kevlar vest and all the weapons you can. /s

So dumb. Almost all violent crime is either domestic or people that know the assailants. You’re literally more likely to die from the garbage you eat, or driving, than anything else.

It was actually sarcasm. You missed the point.

This is true. Sunnyside looks like every other suburb now. It's even, dare I say, kinda nice. Thanks to proximity to the Med Center there is a lot more money in Sunnyside now than I think a lot of people realize.

While there have been new homes built in Sunnyside, there's still a large share in disrepair, probably because the owners (who may or may not live there) can't afford or are unwilling to reinvest in upkeep and updating.

And it is definitely still one of Houston's hot spots for violent crime. South Park and South Union also have issues. Not sure about Crestmont.

Depends on where you are in either city, really.
