I originally wanted to go to Houston but hear that crime has doubled in the past couple years so I decided to settle on going to Dallas.

Totally depends on where you are. River Oaks or West U, no problem. Fifth Ward, not so much. Same in Dallas: Pleasant Grove or Fair Park, no-go. Preston Hollow or HP, no problems.

As in any large city on earth.

Thats too abstract. Both cities have had higher crime rates than the other depend on the year. Both have safe and dangerous neighborhoods.

To be fair to the Fifth Ward, it has its issues, but I don't think it's anywhere near the most dangerous neighborhood in Houston. Compare, say, to Sunnyside, Westwood, etc.

The most dangerous neighborhood in terms of total crime is Westwood I believe. Thats less because of murder and more because of the ridiculous human trafficking problem in that area.

I dont think Sunnyside is that bad. South Park is the most dangerous part of that area.

I would guess as a general rule probably Dallas is a little safer. San Antonio is safer than both of them and border towns like Laredo, El Paso, Del Rio, and the towns in the valley morseo (maybe not Rio Grande City!)

Both are bad, don’t visit them

Dallas homicides down 13% in 2021. There was a good article about the Dallas police chief in the DMN but here is a free article:

Houston homicides up 17% in 2021.

I believe Dallas ranks safer than Houston. Dallas has more areas in it's core that "feel" safe to walk in whether that perception is reality or not.
