We had written about a month ago for advice while we were trying to decide between moving to FL or TX. We are moving from Scotland. The board was brilliant and answered all of our questions and we actually decided on Austin, TX. We have sold our house in Scotland and are ready to make the move. However, the biggest reason we were moving to the Austin area was to be close to our family in College Station. Here's the problem...They have just been given a job transfer to Dallas, TX!! So, back to the drawing board. I have researched a lot and the Dallas Metro area is HUGE!! There seem to be a lot of nice suburbs and communities. We do not want to live in the city. We would like to live and work in the smaller communities (and go to Dallas when we want to go to concerts, shopping trips etc) such as Lewisville, Denton, Rockwall, Rowlett, Little Elm etc. As you can guess we would love to live near one of the lakes. I know a toll bridge is in the works near Little Elm. We don't have to worry about schools-no kids. We are looking for a quiet area, affordable housing, low crime. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!!

I live in Irving, TX...Right smack in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth. I wouldnt suggest moving to my city, but may I suggest Farmers Branch or Carrollton...Those places are nice. Also try Grapevine, Keller and South Lake.

Best of luck!!

Where will the job be? Let us know and we can make suggestions.

I'd live 5-10 min away at most. Commuting is a chore on the best of days.

The favorable exchange rate for the Pound/Euro should make it easy for you to live where you wish.

Most master planned communities offer lakes and golf course views or access to them.

Little Elm is not some sleepy little cove. It is a middle class suburb with very little access in and out. The traffic is terrible!!! I would say that I would look up closer to Denton ...possibly the Lake Dallas area. You have access to I-35 from there.

Thanks for the information everyone. My brother lives in Dallas "proper" and has friends that live in Murphy-commuting to Plano for work. They recommend this as a possibility. However, after researching the net, we like what we have read about Rockwall, Rowlett and Wylie. My husband will be looking for a sales job and I am a medical secretary. We are moving from a town of about 5,000 people, so this is going to be a shock to the system!
