I am in Florida, family lives in Port Isabel near South Padre.
I am an experienced Nurse.
How is the job market in the area and housing cost.
Is it a place to live?

The job market is pretty strong as far as nursing jobs. The pay is much better than in the rest of Texas, and the housing costs are pretty reasonable. Be advised--on this board, there is a group who are extremely anti-Valley, and will make all kinds of bizarre claims about how horrific the Valley is as a destination. It's not the greatest, but it certainly isn't the worst. And you have family here. So don't take it too seriously. BTW--I do feel qualified to answer your question because I am an R.N. and husband is M.D. If you don't have your Texas license, you might want to get started. I can't remember if FL is a compact state, but they recently started requiring background checks with fingerprints and it took over 3 MONTHS to complete mine earlier this year.

hellpaso give us some evidence that Port Isabel's pay is better than the rest of Texas. Average incomes there are lower than the rest of the state. SHOW US!

Port Isabel has housing and its a nice little town on the water. Its isolated and far from San Anton, Houston etc.

There's no hospital or clinic in Port Isabel, as far as I know. I believe that Valley Regional Medical Center opened a clinic on South Padre Island but I'm not sure. The closest hospitals are in Brownsville.

As much as I dislike South Texas/RGV, I must admit, I made the most money I ever made as an RN in my almost 20 year career. BIG money. But would never do it again, for any amount of money.
I took a big paycut to come here to Central Texas and work for the military/government..and every bit was worth it. 100% happier.
