Is their food pretty good? I've seen a few but never tried them out.

I like Taco Cabana--their tortillas are made in-house--they usually keep their condiment bar filled and cleaned up--althought that partly depends on how busy the location is and the staff on hand
they make their own salsa too and I like it--they have limes and lemons--fresh jalapenos as well as pickled and fresh cilantro
they have butter for their tortillas but no honey--that is the one drawback to me
think their fajita soft tacos are really good--the beef gets nice grilled flavor to it
you can get margaritas or beer==we usually go with the soft drinks so can't review other stuff

like any restaurant that has multiple locations--manager/staff make so much difference--so you can go in one and get great food/service/cleanliness and go in another and just walk right out

It's the best fast food - Mexican food. I like it a lot, but it's nothing like a nice sit down restaurant that doesn't have a drive-through. It's light years ahead of Taco Bell though. I love their tortillas.

I loved the ones in Austin when I lived there. Afraid the one on Lamar just south of Barton Springs may have disappeared since 2005.

Agreed. Rosa's is pretty comparable if you have been to one of those.

I like Taco Cabana better than Rosa's. Rosa's seems really greasy and the meat is not as good quality. Taco Cabana is about the best fast-food Mexican.

FWIW, several folks in the San Antonio forum have indicated that the quality of food at Taco Cabana has slipped in the past 2 years.

I like it OK. It's definitely better than Taco Bell.
