When I was a kid we stopped in Fredericksburg for breakfast several times at this one restaurant. They served breakfast in a sort of "cafeteria" style where you just took whatever items you wanted (served yourself), then pushed your tray along (like Luby's) to pay the cashier at the end. In the front of the restaurant was an enclosed indoor foyer.

It was on Main Street (Hwy 290) heading southeast out of town. There is now a Super 8 Motel on the corner of Main and N Elk. I believe that is where it was. There is actually another building right next to the motel, it looks like is called "Panda Chinese". But it looks very much like it could be the same building that housed the previous restaurant, which served American food (but I only ate there for breakfast in the mornings). It even appears to have a 2nd story, and I can remember possibly a mysterious staircase in the front indoor foyer area.

Does anyone know anything about the place I remember?

It was called Birck's BBQ. Their breakfast buffet was good...and the BBQ wasn't bad either! Had to dig deep in the memory bank for that one...

And yes, the Panda Chinese restaurant is now in that spot. In fact, the Panda place has probably been the longest tenant in that spot since Birck's closed.

That's cool. The last time I was in Fredericksburg I even looked for the place and I came to the conclusion that the building was long gone. It's funny that I found it on the map a lot easier.

Default Birck's

I remember this place very, very well.
My wife and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner in the upstairs dining.
I also remember they had the best donuts at the time too. Texas size.
I would love to have a Postcard or picture of this place.
I did see a postcard once of this place, but that's been at least 20yrs.
