I am looking to leave CA. I love the weather here, mild days, not windy,no extreme weather, spring-like most of the year. But, I hate the direction this state is going and frankly, can't see paying these exorbitant taxes to support things I don't even believe in.

I am looking for a medium to smallish, conservative-minded town where I could have a house with a few acres. I prefer a place with good values, courteous people, low crime, close to NRCHA/ similar horse shows, and most of all no dust storms or tornadoes (which terrify me). I' ve heard many middle-class Californians have been moving to Texas. What's the big draw there? I've never been but, other than the weather I've read about on some websites, it sounds good to me.

Are there any horsepersons that could advise me out there?

weatherford west of ftw would be good fit except for the tornado free area--almost any area of tx can have tordados--they are not that frequent but they do happen

There's also Stephenville, also west of Fort Worth.

yep, Weatherford is the cutting horse capital of Texas (or the world!), so living anywhere around there would be good-Parker County, Hood County, Jack County, Wise County.

another option, Stephenville

Aubrey/Pilot Point have "show row" which is a large group of horse farms.

Tornadoes can happen anywhere, but they are much more common west of Wichita Falls.

Check out Weatherford, Definitely! Cutting Horse Capital of the World... The Chamber of Commerce here (and most big businesses) have life-size bronze statues of either cutting horses, reining horses, or horses in general. Every parking lot is full of duelly trucks with or without about 30 horse trailers attached (sorry, I'm exaggerating - but whew! We definitely have horse people here!!) I used to show horses professionally and believe me, this is the place to be - location, location, location. You can find lots of places with nice sandy loam soil that grows that coastal bermuda beautifully - I urge you to consider Weatherford, or any place in Parker County, Texas.
