I can't make this one a poll, cos there are just too many options. Plus, we MAY have done this topic before (probably have, but I have slept and drank beer since then!). Anyway, what do y'all consider the very best football games (by Texas teams) every played? My own list:

1. The Big Shootout. Texas vs. Arkansas 1969
2. The Ice Bowl. Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay Packers 1968
3. Rose Bowl. Texas vs. USC 2006
4. Wichita Falls Coyotes vs. San Antonio Robert E. Lee 1971 4A State Finals
5. Dallas Cowboys vs. Minnesota Vikings (Hail Mary pass) 1975

Y'all...?

I'll play:

Texas Tech vs. Texas, Lubbock, 2008--500th win for Tech, its first win over a #1 team, fourth-highest rated cfb game in ABC history, knocked UT out of the championship (game of inches), Crabtree made the "impossible" catch, etc.

I am with Shoe01 on this one.... last year's Tech vs Texas game was so awesome. I am so glad I got to see it in person. Crabtree's catch was amazing. I get goosebumps still just thinking about it.

Boo!

But that was an awful game, characterized by mistakes on the part of Texas, rather than being a good football game all around. Tech played better football that day, it's true, but the only reason the game is significant is because Tech won.

On the other hand, the Texas-OU game was defined by how well both teams played. Neither made a large number of mistakes, but Texas simply outplayed the Sooners. The top 5 ranking for both teams made it an instant classic, and the hatred that followed after the BCS garbage made the win even more impressive. 2 more weeks for some big revenge...

But I will have to go with Midland High vs Judson in the 2002 5A-I State Championship Game. Midland hadn't made the playoffs in 51 years, and made it all the way to state. The Bulldogs were trailing late in the fourth but had an impressive drive culminating with a long touchdown pass with :22 left in the game, only to see their hopes dashed when Judson threw a 70-yard touchdown pass after the kickoff. Midland had one final chance but threw a long pick to give the Rockets the game. An amazing game all around, and the emotion of the game on both sides--one, a powerhouse program who had dominated for most of the past 20 years, and the other a mediocre program long in the shadow of its crosstown rival Midland Lee--made this the greatest game of all time.

They play football in Texas. Look at the OU roster , 2/3 of the players are from Texas. You need to go back to the TFF brian!

OK Randy ... here's one to add to the list ... the Clint Longley led comeback (by the Cowboys) on Thanksgiving day over the Fore ... errrr .... Redskins!

Better enjoy the memeories because all the 'Boys are dealing out now is heartache!

Another choice would be the 1977 state 4A playoff game in Texas Stadium between Plano (3500 enrollment) and Port Neches-Groves (1450 enrollment). Kind of a David and Goliath setting. This was before UIL realignment and before there was a 5A class. Set the HS record attendance for a playoff game at just a hair under 50K. PN-G lost 13-7 if I remember right. Lots of electricity at that game. PN-G had an exciting run in the 70's. They beat Permian for the '75 4A Championship in a super close game. PN-G holds 3-4 of the top 10 attendance records in UIL playoff games. The crowds generates excitement.

How about the Thanksgiving Day game between the Cowboys and Dolphins when it sleeted the whole game?

Yeah, Miami won because Leon Lett kicked the football and Miami recovered, but wasn't that an entertaining game?
