Austin, and to some degree, Houston. Those are the only ones I'm most familiar with as far as biking goes.

Texas is not as bicycle oriented as some other major metros like to think themselves. Much of riding in Texas cities is at your own risk. I have ridden many miles around both inner Houston and Dallas areas with no problems whatever. But I'm the one that had to make the safety efforts, not the auto drivers.

Dallas does have a bicycling club, the Greater Dallas Bicyclists. The club sponsors a Saturday morning easy ride around parts of inner Dallas, a weekday evening ride, some faster more difficult rides and many members participate in local rallies. The club also has some designed cycling routes and markers on street signs for the cycler to follow. I was never able to keep up with the signs but usually found excellent routes of my own. Typically 7 - 12 miles on a weekday evening, 20 - 30 miles on a weekend day.

Areas in Houston I would ride were Memorial Park, River Oaks, Med Center, Rice U, Montrose, Bellaire.
Areas in Dallas were White Rock Lake, SMU, downtown, Oak Cliff, Love Field, Park Cities, industrial district

I don't know about Austin or other cities.

How is this any different from your other post here:

And why do you just start threads and never respond to them?

Houston may have lots of trails and recreational riders, but as far riding for commutes, it's practically non-existent.

Default Houston biking for commutes

Biking for commutes would be nice in Houston.

I hope Texas will improve over the years, because it is much healthier than sitting in the car all the time and with the gas prices rising and rising it would be good for your wallet too. :-)
