A friend of mine is a salesman for a major car dealership here in AZ. He says any car under 500 miles is usually considered new. A lot of times a dealer does not have the exact car the customer wants, so they find one available in the state ,and sometimes the next state, and send a runner to get it. This can be anywhere from 50 miles to 300 miles and they tell the customer that. If the customer insists on zero miles then they tell them it can take 6-8 weeks before it comes in and they need to put a deposit down. Most customers don't want to wait so they'll take what the dealer can get from somewhere else.
He said a new car with over 500 miles is sold as a demo and people generally negotiate prices so the MSRP is a moot thing.

Of course, I signed. But driving home, I wondered to myself does anyone ever say "that's not okay"?
It would have been a non-issue in our case too if the salesman had made it clear in lucid terms that the car is being located for us and will be delivered in a week and that we shouldn't expect it to have 'some' miles on it.

We did ultimately take delivery of the car after the GM of the dealership spoke to us. He said they will extended the warranty of toyota by an year (dealer warranty) for no charge.

It's been about 10 days since we took delivery. So far so good..

Thanks for everybody who chipped in..looking at the comments helped us put our situation in perspective. My only comment to posters who thought this was a non-issue & made a sarcastic comment or two is that issue most important to us @ a particular point in life might not seem a big deal to others but that doesn't make the issue any less important.

They should 've told me they are getting one from another dealer..not use terms like we're getting new deliveries within the week. Keep in mind that this is a 2015 Corolla which lot of dealers we enquired didn't 've or deliveries from Toyota were coming in bursts and spurts (how i do know this because they were willing to negotiate on the 2014s but weren't ready to talk pricing on the 2015s).

This all depends on the expectations of what "new" means. Many want a big O on the odometer when they buy new. I understand the hesitation when you see triple digits. You at least want to hear an explanation. When my son bought his Rav4 last month it had about 20 miles on it.

I am planning to buy 2015 corolla LE premium, after checking with many dealers i got the lowest OTD price as $21500. If this cheap or i still need to negotiate.

haha, i bought a new honda in like 99/00 and it had 6 miles on the odo

my girl bishing about it saying it wasnt new

i explained that the car is driven for a number of reasons

people are just picky and anal about trivial things

just make sure the car has no defects and make sure the dealer cleans and gases it up, they like to gank people on the gas fillup alot of times

btw, got $2.17/gal @ citgo this morning... i still think it needs to get to $1.49 before i say gas is "cheap"

Long lost friend: "I am going to be in town, do you want to have dinner?"
You: "I would love to, but I have moved now"
Long lost friend: "Where to?"
You: "Just outside the city..."
Long lost friend: "When do you get off work?"
You: "I didn't go in today at all!"
Long lost friend: "Why won't you come then?"
You: "The drive is too much!"
Long lost friend: "Why?"
You: "I would be putting 86 miles on my car!"
