What a load of bull! Ballerinas stand in pointy-toed shoes for hours a day, but I don't think we should encourage random members of the public to assume that it will work for them too!
Sure it goes real well with the 16" wide seats we have now. Who needs that much seat anyway. Get rid of center armrests and make it a 2" bench seat. They should be able to trim the seat depth down to at least 18". In NYC on the MTA it isnt more than that anyway during rush hour. Many people stand in the same position for about an hour with one arm over their head and the seat belt is the person standing next to you. So its not much of a stretch to move it to airplanes.

But NYrs dont get a discount for standing. And the standing seats on airplanes would be for short hall flights anyway that now charge around $60 each way. $200 flights are currently a coast-to-coast flight.
Maybe NY should be like the SF BART and charge for distance travelled to be better inline with airlines.

Ha! I'd love to see a $200 fare from San Diego to NYC, or even Newark at this point! I flew home in July and I assure you, it was nowhere near $200! I just booked a flight again to JFK today, going at the beginning of October, and again, nowhere near $200! I fly coast to coast all the time. My husband? At least twice a month, sometimes more! Neither of us has seen these $200 fares, ever!
And short haul flights? Do you want to know how much it would cost me to fly to LAX, from San Diego? It's ridiculous! SF? Seattle? Those are more than some of these cross country trips, it's outrageous! I assure you, if I could get to Seattle from SAN for $120, I'd be flying up there more often!
And as far as standing goes, you're barely allowed to stand when the seatbelt sign is off on the plane, never mind when it's on! The airline rules force you to be seated and buckled. Not so much on the subway!

That quote says it all. Total pipe dream. They won't even apply for certification until somebody else agrees to pay the bill.
Why have seats at all? Why not just shove as many people as possible in there like cattle? Talk about profits.
Whoever came up with that stupid seat idea needs a swift kick with one of them. They look very uncomfortable. And how do people get in the seats anyway? It looks awfully narrow between each row. Are they hoisted up and then crammed into the half seat? I think only midgets will like this idea.
I really wouldn't mind flying without the reclining seat option. I rarely use it and I only use it when the person in front of me does.
But I agree that the "Skyrider" seats look mighty uncomfortable.
