Last summer I spent a weekend at Wrightsville Beach, NC and was floored by how nice the beach was. Sand was soft and clean and the water a real light blue color. Water was warm as well in August. Question is, does anyone know of any other beaches like that in South Carolina or Georgia?
Am not sure about Hilton Head since a friend went there last summer and told me the ocean was really cloudy and looked like brown river water. Are there any beaches in SC or GA with blue water and nice clean sand?
At the risk of miffing SC or GA people, I found the beaches there to be kind of muddy. I mean, it is called the Low Country. This is not to say the region is not lovely. The marshes and tidal creeks have a haunting beauty of their own.
But the beaches, IMHO, are nothing all that special.
An exception: Cumberland Island, GA, which is literally minutes away from the Florida border.
This place is paradise, white sand, gorgeous beaches, accessible only by boat or ferry.
I am a "Jersey girl" - great beaches - We've been travelling the east coast looking for other places to go. We tried Virginia Beach and we were really disappointed. However, we loved Myrtle Beach in NC.

No offense taken. Wrightsville has those colors and you can also find it beginning at about Cumberland and further south. SC and GA tend to not have the clear water like that. Interestingly, it changes in the seasons. In SC, the water tends to be more clear in the winter than in the summer.

Any thoughts on Kiawah Island, SC? Looks nice from photos. Not sure about the beaches or water though.

Kiawah is a beautiful place. It's a resort that is the place of choice for many athletes, actors etc. The whole island is manicured. The beaches are peaceful and scenic primarily because they don't get the same crowds. Speaking strictly about the water color, you will not find the clear blue/green water on most days in the summer.
The water off the east coast changes depending on the weather conditions. A storm far off the coast can cause cloudy seas, so it's hard to say where you will be guaranteed crystal clear oceans. I've seen my feet as far north as NJ, but it really depends on what's happening elsewhere.
