What is the farthest one way that you would be willing to drive for a day trip? (overnight, driving)

I mean, how far one way. Since on a day trip, you wouldn't be spending the night. I asked someone I work with and she said 4 hours, which means that one would be spending about 8 hours getting to and from one's destination. I have done 5 hours one way when I was younger, and still managed to spend at least 8-9 hours in the area I was visiting. Now, I think 3 hours would be my limit for a day trip. I'm not asking for any particular reason, just saw this hasn't been brought up here before.

About the distance (47 miles) of my house to an entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

1.5 hours each way would be my max. Much more than 3 hours driving in a day and it needs to be an overnight trip.

This could depend on what you drive though.... less fuel efficiency (my Dodge Ram) means I'm looking for more bang for my buck on a day trip.

Anywhere from 3-4 hours is about the maximum for me. I have done it many times, going from here in Seattle area to either Vancouver, BC or Portland. Each is 3+ hours depending on traffic.

It all depends on what my plans are. For a spur of the moment drive I usually keep it under a couple hours each way. If it is something I planned ahead of time I might go as much as 4 hours each way.

I prefer to keep it to 2 hours. Any farther and I'd plan to stay over.

Normally, I will only drive 2 hours or 2 1/2 hours for a day trip. On a rare occasion I may drive up to 3 1/2 hours, especially if someone is sharing the driving with me.

About 250 miles, which is around 3.5 hours. For me that's to Billings, MT. I've made that one-day round-trip dozens of times. It's a relaxing drive -- interstate all the way and not much traffic.
