950 miles, western PA to FL. I'll probably do it again. I actually did this twice last year, although the second time I had a second driver and we didn't go quite as far. I don't think she actually drove, but having another person in the car is useful even without that.
Alone it took me almost 17 hours to get the 950 miles, with all stops. Starting at 6am, the last bits were really difficult and required stopping more often and trying to stave off the exhaustion. But I made it. On the way back, I stopped. Both times actually. Left FL in afternoon so drove part way, stopped for night, then drove rest of way.
Not the longest - but most grueling drive was non-stop Houston to Brunswick, GA (between Savannah and Jacksonville, FL) on 2 1/2 hours of sleep the night before, leaving at 2 am. About 1000 miles, 14 hours.
I think around 800 would be my upper limit each day. Unless I am in some kind of rush, I don't have a problem with staying in a hotel or motel to lessen the stress.
Alexandria, Virginia to Mena, Arkansas, in a U-Haul truck, stopping only for gas and snacks. 18 hrs and 1152 miles. Also, from Oceanside, California to Houston, Texas. Before the Interstate Hwy was built. 20 hrs and 1500 miles.
This summer I will have to make an El Paso to Chicago trip and then the return trip. It's about 1500 miles. I won't be able to do it going to Chicago but I think I could make the trip to EP from Chicago in a very long one day drive. If I average about 75 mph, I could do it in about 20 hours. I could do it going west since I will be gaining time by going west.
