Probably most people try to wear loose/comfortable clothing during flight. Sometimes you may want to look good upon arrival, e.g. if someone important will meet you at the airport. I know some people go to the lavatory to change shortly before landing, but it's very inconvenient. Is it the case that there are always (i.e. in almost all airports?) restrooms you can go before exiting the checked baggage area and meeting people outside?
I agree that terminal facilities should be used for this, not the plane. Quite selfish to be undertaking a wardrobe change while long lines a forming to go to the toilet after waking up. This happened to me a few weeks ago at the end of a 14 hour flight. 12 people were waiting in the aisle I was in and a similar number next one over. The person I was waiting behind was in there for 9 minutes, but she did look in better shape when she came out......
No. I plan nothing on my first day of destination that would require me to change clothes. Only a sweater if it's cool out. But, then, I do only domestic travel - would likely be different landing in another part of the world.
At every airport that I have been there are restrooms/toilets after one gets off the aircraft before one gets to the area where people come to meet passengers. Quite often I use these facilities rather than on the aircraft as it is preferable being on stable ground. But I never change my clothing in them as I am never going directly to any type of formal business meeting/s as soon as I get off an airplane.
I always dress up when I travel. I would never consider changing clothes on the plane or at the airport. Once I get to my hotel, I always shower, and change clothes before heading out.
My tendency to dress up really does go against California norms and the "anything goes" mode of dressing. Some of the sloppiest, most pathetically-dressed people I've seen come from the bay area, especially the techie crowd. I doubt any of them change clothes the entire time they're on a trip.
Yes, I have changed upon arrival, but this is rare, usually only after long flights so that I"m not riding the bus/in a car/taxi smelling funky. Even then, though, I change in the bathrooms near the gates after deplaning. I would never change on the plane as I consider it to be rude to take up a significant amount of time in the bathroom changing while others are in line to relieve themselves.
I only change clothes if it has been a long trip and I'm also showering - I don't really like to put on clean clothes when I'm still "dirty"!
So I don't change clothes on the plane and would only change clothes at the airport if I was going from one temperature extreme to another and absolutely couldn't wait - like middle of winter Chicago to Hawaii...or visa versa and couldn't layer my clothes to work it out otherwise.
I try to wear "casual chic" to travel so I can be comfy but not look grungy.
