First, contact the airline and arrange for assistance and a wheelchair. It is the best way to get through the airport with mobility issues.
Second, MOST people will help you with your luggage - cab drivers, shuttle operators and the like. Just carry a lot of singles - AND a smile.
Christmas travel is spread over a few weeks so there is NO one good day to travel. The holiday is probably the least travelled but so is the Saturday after.
