When I lived in Richland for a short stint decades ago, I remember one winter being very cold and the next not being bad at all. I remember the first winter where temperatures actually hit below zero for awhile. The next winter was relatively balmy.

It seems to me that the Tri-Cities gets less snow than places like Wenatchee or Spokane and is a bit warmer too. I've noticed that this year also when watching the WSDOT web cams that I routinely keep an eye on ...that when Wenatchee and Spokane were getting lots of snow, the Tri-Cities had hardly any at all.

winter weather is very mild in tri-cities for Washington in general and especially for east of the cascades. My wife and I moved back up here from San Diego area and the only reason we did so was because the winter is so mild compared to the rest of the state. Too wet and grey on the Westside and too cold and snow in Spokane.

Well everyone pretty much covered it. Sometimes we can large dumps of snow when no one expects it, but that is not too common.

Thanks all who answered. It doesn't sound too bad.
Someday I'll go out there and check it out.

The most recent winter here has been pretty cold. A few days at my house the temperature was under 10 degrees F. We had one day of freezing rain followed by snow and that was not fun. There were a lot of accidents that day. A few people I know were stuck. From what I hear though, this is not normal weather for the area. Every few years the Tri-Cities gets a good snow storm, but Winters are relatively mild.

It got down to 5 one morning here in Pasco. That was an early morning low with snow already on the ground. When we lived on the coast, all of my friends acted like the Tri-Cities always gets slammed with snow. This year we did. We had almost 2 feet of it over our lawn at one point in Jan. From what I understand , that was sort of freakish. The city was good about taking care of the roads etc., and since we have a 4x the weather didn't make getting around too inconvenient. The ice that forms as the snow begins to melt is a problem though.
