Today we were at a restaurant attached to a grocery store with a seat at the window. I watched a school bus pull up and back up to park. I just watched it because I wanted to see if the driver would back into a car that was next to it.
Anyway, my mother then said, was that that woman who was the driver? I hadn't noticed the driver get out. There was a lone child, a very young one, on the bus all alone. You could just see the top of their head moving in one of the back seats. The driver had gone into the grocery store apparently and left he child alone in the bus.
We didn't know what to do. I didn't think you could leave a child in a bus alone like that, or maybe the driver didn't realize there was still a child on the bus. I didn't get a look at the driver but they were in the store for at least 20 minutes while we waited for the check. We did some quick shopping afterwards and when we came out the bus was gone.
Icy Tea, always be alert to a child in a precarious situation or in distress. Thank you for being observant about the children around you. I do not think it was the right thing to do to leave the child in the bus but I dont know what the laws are. We have a long way to go in protecting our most precious resource.
