Is a daily commute from Scottsdale to Tucson insane or doable? (Phoenix: apartment, renting)

Ive done that drive when in Arizona and city center to city center you could do it in non rush hour traffic in 2 hours. It could be Freeway driving the whole way 101 to 202 to the I10 unless you were driving to the outskirts of Tucson.

If you ran a poll, my guess is that it would be overwhelmingly "insane". Two hours is the best case scenario--yikes.

Yes, two hours would be a good estimate. I did that for a couple of years many years ago. Then when I got to Phoenix area I drove there all day visiting stores. My NEW two year old car had 189K miles on it when I traded it in. Insane yes, 70 plus hour weeks get old. However, my drive time was my time to "de-stress" before I got home!

Doable, Calipoppy? . . . possibly but INSANITY is a better term.

Considering the price of fuel plus the "wear and tear" on both your vehicle and your body, . . . renting a small studio apartment would make more sense.

NE side of town in the foothills is as close as you'll get... and its much less trendy and the age demographic is much older.

Look north of River between Kolb and Oracle.

It's doable, but it'll become old and expensive REALLY quickly. Except for a short part of your commute on the southbound 101 freeway and the eastbound 202, the majority of your time would be spent going against traffic. I don't know what part of Tucson you'd be working in, but you might run into some issues with congestion down there.

If you took the 101 freeway to the Santan Freeway, to the 10 in Chandler, you would be fine. There is pretty much constantly construction on some part of the I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson in an effort to widen the road the between the two cities. It would probably take between 2 to 2.5 hours each way everyday. Weather will really not be an issue, except for possible dust in the summer.

I know of no commuter bus that carries people between the two cities, nor does any commuter rail exist. If you want Scottsdale in Tucson, you need to look in the Foothills, Oro Valley, or parts of Marana. Living anywhere else in the Tucson areawould not resemble the lifestyle that Scottsdale offers.

I know a person who lives in Tucson and commutes to the Phoenix area, which I'm sure is a lot more common than the Phoenix area to Tucson. If you're dead set on living in the Phoenix area, you should check out Ahwatukee or south Chandler for quicker access to Tucson.

Specifically what is it about Scottsdale that you want Tucson to emulate? Old Town? Dining and drinking? Mega-shopping? Luxury car dealers? Older people? Few children? Golf courses? $500 sunglasses? Nice, but not the most expensive houses? Tribal land across the highway? Scottsdale has a lot of characteristics, so it's hard to imagine what you mean by "Scottsdale-ish."

Also, if you're going to be working IN Tucson, you might want to specify where the job is. Commuting even from one end of Tucson (let alone Pima County) to the other can also be time-consuming.
