Out of curiosity, I searched Google Maps to find the location of the Safeway shopping center where the horrible shooting incident happened last weekend. It's located at the corner of Oracle & Ina Roads, which isn't even in the Tucson city limits ... it's in an unincorporated suburban section called Casas Adobes. That explains why Loughner was taken into custody by Pima County Sheriff deputies instead of Tucson Police. It's a technicality, but after finding this out, I think it might be more appropriate if the media would report that the incident happened OUTSIDE of Tucson, instead of in Tucson.

On a side note, some idiot posted a sick joke on the Google site about this Safeway location, saying "this store has food to die for." In light of this incident, I found that to be very crude, and not funny at all!

I did notice some media articles are saying it took place "near Tucson".....yes, it took place well outside Tucson city limits, but you can't tell where the limits are as the entire area is built-up urban...mailing address is "Tucson" for this immediate area

You're correct about it being outside the line (not too much, on the map I looked at) But, I think a lot of people who live in Tucson wouldn't know that wasn't in the city limits. As you drive along either Ina or Oracle, I doubt that it looks any different in the two areas. I don't live there, of course, and while when I was in that area more often years ago, it seemed a bit "out of town" I assumed that that area must have been annexed by now. My sister lived in a "county island" in Peoria. I don't think anyone except the people who lived there knew it wasn't part of the city.

You are absolutely correct, Valley Native.

Tucson City Limits end as Oracle Road crosses The Rillito River so that particular Safeway is approximately FIVE MILES NORTH of Tucson.

[mod cut-- off topic-- this is not a political thread]

Well the sign entering Oro Valley is right after Ina across from Sprouts heading north. Maybe Ina and Oracle is just in limbo...not quite Tucson not quite Oro Valley.

I live in the area and my mailing address is Tucson. So I guess it is how technical you wanna get. Alot of times people refer places just outside of major cities as the city.

How is that SO important...?! What's the agenda? Proving it happened outside the city limits that are more notorious for crime or proving it happened really close to pristine Oro Valley? None of that matters. It would've happened wherever that event was held.
