Just saying hi.

And...

I have been living in Port Townsend, WA for the last few months. It was an experiment to see if my brain could handle the overcast and chilliness of the region. The results are in and I cannot do it. So, I am planning on being in Tucson after the Gem show in February after spending some weeks in Southern California to recharge my mental batteries.

Just wondering if there was anyone here who made a similar move and if it changed your view of life in any appreciable way.

Also, I will be looking for an apartment in the $400 - $600 range downtown, like W of U. Am I kidding myself?

I can tell you this, having lived in both places: Tucson was too much sun, too much heat, for me. Yes, it is bright, there are many things to do there, but I found both extremes (Port T and Tucson), too much. And I am still searching for that [affordable] middle ground!

Each time I have moved from one very distinctive region to another, I have lasted about 2-3 years before it became unbearable, suddenly unbearable! I am talking extremes here. Florida to Alaska, Tucson to Pt. T, D.C. to Santa Fe, etc.

But if you can't adjust, you can always move, I hope!

It has been too many years for me to be able to advise on the apartment rent. I do know that in the rabbit warren neighborhoods of the students, there is usually a little nook or cranny that can be rented at a reasonable rate, but it will likely be very modest indeed!

I have lived the the PNW and LOVE AZ weather compared to the rain, dampness and darkness up there, but I like sun and heat, not everybody does.

Thanks both of you for your response.

I have a pretty good feeling I am going to like it there. I have lived in Hawaii, to expensive but I felt good.Same with North Carolina, to humid there though. I think I am a "sunny" type...but yes, I can always move!
