Where can I find a list of neighborhoods with community pools and workout/exercise equipment available via their community center?
Your Realtor should be able to tell you this. Depends what area you're looking in. Remember, Pima County is as big as the state of New Jersey.

If you want to swim and are looking to buy in the Northwest suburb, the YMCA on Shannon (next to Pima Community College's NW campus) is the biggest, newest Y in the metro and is well-known for great swimming.

The town of Oro Valley opened a competition-level aquatic center last year. Members of the 2014 U.S. National Swim Team competed in April in the U.S. National Synchronized Swimming Championships that were held at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center.

Another monthly cost is electricity $30-50/mo, less in winter. Doing your own pool care can save money but, it is a lot of work at times. Replacing pool equipment can be tricky and you need multiple skills, plumbing, electrical etc. The going rate to have someone clean and do your chemicals weekly is $80-100. If you do it yourself, read up on what to do, the pool stores can give you a how to manual. Make sure to buy a good test kit. Jump in the waters fine!

The heavy servicing that pools will require in time also requires physical strength for opening/closing pipes and such. Maintaining chemicals is pretty easy.

I haven't felt that there are more bugs due to the pool, but one year a Colorado River toad laid an egg strip in the pool. The toad ended up in the skimmer basket, not dead. Since then I have covered it at night, which has helped a lot. If the nearest public pool weren't 45 mi. away, I would not have a pool.

I just got two quotes for pool care. One is $100/mo. (Cimarron Circle) which includes weekly cleaning (skim, brush sides and bottom)
add chemicals and clean out the basket. this does not cover the cost of the chemicals. The other (Splash Pool Service) is $84.95/mo. and they do the same but bi-weekly and they include the chemicals. They also have a pool school that they offer to train you to do upkeep yourself.
