TeleEvangelists and Ministries are the least of America's Problems especially those like Oral Roberts " who's aren't Judgemental types of Ministries , helping people that need to be healed of a incurable sickness and diseases is giving someone a helping hand.

I know for a while there it seemed like almost all of the major charismatic ministers had some kind of presence in Tulsa. Now that might have changed in recent years as the major figures have passed away but I'm guessing that it is still pretty prominent in the area.

From what I could tell, Baptists are more prominent in Texas as far as a lot of their nationally prominent people being located there, Baylor, Dallas Theological, etc. I would guess you might see more a shift toward Pentecostal type churches as you move eastward through Oklahoma---I grew up on the far eastern edge of Oklahoma and I would say there were more Pentecostal type churches there, or at least there were as many as Baptist churches.

Definitely agree the groups shouldn't be lumped in together since they differ on a lot of basic things. I'm on the fence about how ORU, etc., have influenced the city....
Fair enough. I wouldn't expect you to totally get it if you hadn't lived here in a while.

Of these listed only COTM has a pretty good reputation, IMO. The others are generally considered "Loosey Goosey" not only because of scandal associated with Oral Roberts but because of their badgering techniques for money from congregants and their unorthodox views and hyped-up superspiritualism of the Holy Spirit.

Again, OK is generally in the top 3 of most Southern Baptists per capita along with MS and AL (among other Southern states). (Just Google for some links.)

Baylor is considered much more liberal now....most conservative Texas Southern Baptists won't claim it. Dallas Theological Seminary is not a Southern Baptist entity, but non-denominational in its orientation.

Oklahoma easily has more of a Southern Baptist bent than Tejas (read high Catholic underpinnings due to Mexican influx). Ever heard of Oklahoma Baptist University? It's the conservative reverse of Baylor. Ever heard of Falls Creek? It's not only the largest Southern Baptist camp in the world....it's actually the largest summer camp anywhere in the world just by sheer attendance (something like 50,000 a year or more).

My elderly parents are both from eastern Oklahoma....solidly Southern Baptist territory along with the rest of the state, followed by Methodists, and then Pentecostals/Charismatics.

Oh I wasn't saying that people didn't think Charismatics were goofy, I was just saying that Tulsa has [or maybe had] an awful lot of 'em. Seemed like about every other co-worker at my job was a Rhema student or at the very least went to Victory.

Weird, I spent most of my life in Eastern Oklahoma and don't recall much Methodist presence at all...maybe it varies from area to area, and by county. Might also be economic/population based---I think traditionally Pentecostals generally are more prevalent in poorer rural areas, I could see there maybe being more Methodists elsewhere in the state.

Actually, this makes sense.

This is true. Keep in mind that Methodism in smaller communities in Oklahoma/Southern states is a lot less "high church" than you would find in more populated areas. Most older Southern Baptists like myself see an affinity with old Southern Methodism and not Pentecostalism. About the only thing that Southern Baptists and Pentecostals gather together would be a Southern Gospel concert....if you can stand the stuff. Lot's of younger folks can't.

The real point is that Oklahoma is a very Evangelically-laced state (one of the highest % wise) any way you slice it.....made up of Southern Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals/Charismatics, and a growing segment of non-demoninationals with the rest of the Bible Belt.

I don't know if the City Plex complex is currently paying for the expenses of keeping it open, but if it isn't, surely the answer to that problem will be to tear it down.
You act like it's empty. Outside of the hospital tower it's mostly full. According to the building website they have 500,000 square feet of space available out of 2.2 million square feet of leasable space. That's 77% full.

I agree with you and I'm sure that within 10 or 20 years it will be at somewhere around 100 % occupancy.....

My company has back-up offices leased in city-plex. If you get upstairs and take a look around, the building is already falling apart. Drywall is falling down and you can see water damage everywhere. In my opinion its a dump.
