Public TV's iconic "Star Hustler" Jack Horkheimer passed away at age 72 on Friday 8/20/2010. Many of you may remember him from his weekly 5 minute segment that appeared on public TV stations prior to nightly sign off. The program which started in Florida first appeared on PBS in 1985. As most stations now run 24 hours it has been harder to find his short programs but they are available over the web.

I didn't get to see this often, MD Public TV doesn't show it. I guess because they show 30 year old British shows, Lawrence Welk and hours of cooking. That's in the 2 weeks every month they aren't fund raising.

The older Jack got, the younger his hair looked. And damned if he wasn't able to pull it off without looking like a caricature.

R.I.P. Jack H.

I enjoyed that sign-off on WQED the many years that I lived in Pittsburgh. So sorry to hear about Jack's passing.

Wow - I remember watching those in my High School years, plus it introduced me to the work of Isao Tomita (since we would always ask who did the music)

RIP and keep looking up!

That's where I would watch it on whenever I was up that way. Channel 13. Home of Mr. Rogers and Joe Negri.
