I knew it was unscripted. They do stuff like this all the time with kid actors. They'll either have them try out a product and see what their natural reaction is or they'll ask a question and get a natural answer. Much better (and easier!) than using a memorized script (that is less believable than a natural answer!)
With that being said, I must also say I'm tired of little kids and babies selling adult products also. It doesn't make me interested in the product nor does it make me want to buy the product!
Usually the kids in commercials are pretty good and I don't mind them other than I am not sure I like the idea of using kids to sell things. But in this case, these kids overact so badly I can stand watching them. Someone has to be telling them to shout and gesture and just go as far over the top as possible. That to me is just too much. The face making, twitching, squirming, shouting and all that.
It would be funny for me if the man just asked these questions and the kids just answered without going so over the top. But the way they go crazy is just annoying.
One of the kid commercials I did like were the ones with Susies Lemonade stand where the little girl began with a lemonade stand and wound up with a lemonade empire. I thought that one was pretty clever. I can't recall at the moment what the commercial was for. I think it was for an investment company. I remember! It was Verizon and how a little girl's small investment company grows with the help of her wireless phone.
It's not scripted. They shot over a couple of days and did some improvising and some scripted. They ended up using the improvised parts for the final cuts. The director was Jorma Taccone from SNL.
Yes. Each kid had a chance to say something (improvised and scripted). I want to say each group shot for maybe 2 hrs.
