All the clean shaven college educated [aside from the patriarch] men in this show hatched an idea, pitched it to A&E, they bought it, and they made 40 million this past year off merchandising. The "reality" show Duck Dynasty is nothing more than a Hollywood movie, the family is in costume and although there may be some tiny threads of truth, it is fictional and just like any other TV show, they are all in character playing their parts. So if you think that A&E stumbled onto this real life hillbilly family in Hicksville Louisiana, sorry to burst your bubble. It is a totally fabricated show for your entertainment. The controversial remarks made were totally for publicity, to stir up the media and the viewers, to get attention for the new season, and it worked very well.
Are you really that naive, to think that everyone bought into this? Yea you may be bursting some bubbles, but really, do you think you were the first to figure this out? I don't think they needed this controversy for the show, the ratings were through the roof, before this interview.
Yep and Op must think other reality shows just follow the people day to day. They are scripted; but the people are real and its entertainment not documentaries. They are really cheaper to make for viewership if successful also.

I refuse to watch most realtity shows. I admit an addiction to house rehab shows. But that's pretty much all HGTV has ever done.
What I HATE about these travesties is they have driven real drama and writing to the corner, and caused, because they are cheaper and get ratings, too many GOOD scripted drama to dissapear after a season.
I wish there was the reality channel, all reality all the time. Then let the rest get back to real mind enriching story. Its telling that the drama series done for purely online are doing so well, since they are all either doctor/cop/lawyer shows on the networks, or more reality crap.

You would have to be very naive to think that any of the so-called "reality" shows are not scripted and even at least partially rehearsed. Doesn't matter, if it's entertaining. As the ratings prove, this one is. Looking forward to the new season.
