So bad I couldn't even believe it. So trite. And how on earth could James Caan be her father? She looks 25 and he looks 80! Grandfather is more like it. He is the last person on earth to be curmudgeonly appealing. He just plays a p'oed crabby guy period.
To be fair, Maggie Lawson is only 4 years younger than James Caan's real life son (Scott Caan) so it isnt like it is a stretch for her to be his daughter.
I guess, but with such a wide age range, movie stars notwithstanding, this guy likely would not have been her Dad and had been involved in her baseball career such as it was. Just not a likely plot, too hard to believe. And so crass, every cheap shot taken, kids being outrageous in attempts to be loveable, not. Feisty Mom trying to gain the empathy of the viewer with her "bad" childhood, doesn't. This just fails on so many levels. And I wanted to like this show because I like her in Psych, but just don't think I will like this show.
Like I said in "the Goldbergs" thread, I must not have a good sense of comedy. When she told the coach "one pitch" and then beaned him I thought it was hysterical.
I'll agree that it is rather vulgar and the first episode really dragged but when she beaned him, I also thought it quite fun/ny and I decided to to give it another go tonight. I was entertained. I shall consider it my over the top guilty pleasure. I will be annoyed if she hooks up with the business owner/league head. (I am curious to what extent the effeminate boy is acting - I mean how do they cast for that?)
I think this show has more heart, energy and laughs than Modern Family. Last night's H'ween episode was pretty good. It had the upbeat positive family values close that Mod Fam had in earlier seasons.
