Now that some of the dust has settled, I've decided Kimmel is not much more than a big bore. He doesn't really have good interviewing skills.
Every time I've tried to tune in Fallon, I really just can't get out of there fast enough. He's still acting like a spoiled 3-year old on Christmas morning.
So I guess I'm stuck with Letterman. He hasn't been as funny as he was right after Fallon started, but he's still light years better than the Jimmies.
I find I am watching more 24hr cable news channels now. Fallon is relying too much on childish acting. He needs to hire good writers that can quickly create jokes based on current events of the day, and I mean that day. Then he needs to trust them.

Silliness will only last so long.
I sincerely doubt that I could have said that better, myself.
I think he's a nice guy, but he's confusing funny with silly. And regardless of how many YouTube hits he gets, advertisers on his show want to see ratings. I also seriously doubt that, had Fallon been on decades ago, we'd be seeing ads for his "classics" on DVD.
The biggest problem IMO is that Fallon needs to realize The Tonight Show is not SNL. That stuff may have worked most of the time on Late Night, but that is a different viewing audience. Ratings are up now among younger people, but how long will that last? My generation is less likely to keep watching something just because it's what they know and have liked in the past.

I thought Conan was a goofball but Fallon takes goofy to a new level

Yeah, they are trying too hard (like most things on TV/movies today) to pander to the under 40 crowd. I noticed even Jay Leno was doing that to a certain extent during his second stint on the Tonight Show.

Leno had dry humor and did not jump up and down like a fool

There was no drier humor than Johnny Carson. It was awesome.
