I said the exact same thing. Of course my wife was giving me this look of "what's wrong with you". I'm glad it wasn't just me who thought this.

She deliberately gained weight for the show. Great debut episode, looking forward to the rest of the season.

I did wonder if Jesse's character was going to mix the Ry with hamburger meat, or dump it or just go ahead and sell it as is!

Ya know! I don't think we've seen the last of the UFO. At the end of episode 2, when Ed got off the phone with his wife, we heard a recitation of the opening of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds. Sort of a condensed version – maybe from the radio show or the movies.

From the novel:

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter.................
The whole thing: https://www.fourmilab.ch/etexts/www/warworlds/b1c1.html

Then, as the camera panned up the outside of the butcher shop building, just before the credits rolled, a white light could be seen flashing – very briefly - maybe a reflection of the UFO in the windows.
