Over the years, Father Knows Best started getting a lot of heat for being the typical 1950s sitcom where everything was portrayed as perfect. Before I ever watched the show, I believed the critics were right. But when I finally started watching it years ago, I saw that they couldn't have been more far off base and that they probably didn't see the series at all.
Another situation similar to this is the Benny Hill Show. From what I understand, comedian Ben Elton led the charge against him and from that moment on, the show just disappeared into a black hole and now Hill is persona non grata. I understand that the series had its moments (scantily clad women and yellow face) but the show wasn't just that and it was all good-natured, not malicious or hateful.
With that being said, are there any shows you feel have gotten a bum rap over time?
Police Squad, only lasted all of six episodes before being shown the door, and yet it was ahead of its time in pure zany comedic whackiness. Which is probably why studio execs canned it before returning as the Naked Gun films a few years later!

'Last Man Standing'
Anyone who paid attention to the business side of that show over its run knows it didnt get a bum rap. It is easy to apply politics to it though so that narrative will never die.
Firefly, was great, but again only lasted 1 season.
That and Farscape, which to be fair got as far as 4 seasons, but there was also concerns at the end of every season if it would see the light of day for the next one.
They were going to be moved to Friday to partner with "Last Man Standing". At the time "LMS" was undergoing renewal talk. ABC wanted budget reduction and Fox Television wasnt interested in lowering the asking price. A deal was struck where Fox TV would lower the production costs and in return, ABC would pick up "Cristela" and would air with "LMS" on Friday. Because of that pickup, "Suburgatory" was given the axe.
