I am fearful of reading the books, as I started watching first and don't want any preconceived notions. I bought all of them, though. We really enjoyed the first episode. I am glad that Bill got his new position as king. His character was sort of weak, being shuttled back and forth by the plot but not appearing to be in charge of his own fate. There are a lot of questions left from the first episode and I cannot wait until next week. I am addicted to this. It's my very favorite show.
The 2nd episode is already up OnDemand (maybe because of the holiday weekend?) I watched it yesterday.

The books are different enough from the show that you can enjoy both without too much overlap. I wouldn't want to watch the show if it was exactly the same all the way through. Though sometimes it's hard to compare when things you liked about the books don't come through, like I don't like how Sam is a jerk on the show, when he was the quintessential good guy in the story. Lafayette and Tara were given much bigger roles than their book counterparts, but now it seems the writers don't know what to do with them and the cast is getting bloated.

The books and the show are a lot different, they generally just have a few key things in common, like certain characters or a basic premise. The book has characters that aren't in the show, and vice versa.
Sometime stuff that is a big part of the show is only a small part of the book. It's good because you can enjoy one without ruining the other.
I agree, I don't like what the show has done with some of the characters, like Sam. Also don't like what the show did with the Hotshot characters.

I think she was just trying to be kind to him by not telling him.
I kinda thought that until she told him how her parents died.
It just made me think different writers messing up the storyline.
