Not all of Dallas proper is or was wet either. They just voted recently for parts of the city to sell alcohol too.

Going to the next neighborhood isn't as bad as going to the next town or county which you still have to do for the hard stuff. Plus the point was that the sale of alcohol doesn't mean Tyler isn't in the bible belt. As you point out, Louisiana is less strict about alcohol sales than anywhere in Texas, but it's about as bible belt as you can get.

OK, some of us don't care, it's ok, to be called THE BIBLE BELT. I am totally aware that some people just can't stand a Place like that. By the way, it sure doesn't mean a non-Christian, Bible-Belt place is more Progressive, to me, the progressive label is not always desirable or a good thing.

I lived in Tyler for twenty years and very easily surrounded myself with a fine circle of terrific friends of every color and creed. I lived happily in a diverse neighborhood and attended a church that is one of the most multicultural anyone could imagine. My multiracial family never experienced harassment and as my kids became teens and adults, they dated and eventually married whoever they wanted - and the result is a family that looks like a UN delegation. Here's a recent photo of our family (I'm not in the photo because I was taking it):

By the way, between the various family members, we counted up that we have traveled or lived in about 70 countries. And we're nowhere near done yet.
