Hi, I searched other threads but couldn't find one specific enough to answer my question.

I live in California and worked at my last job for about 5 1/2 years and was let go on 3/8/11. I filed an unemployment claim on 3/17/11. I receive $450.00 a week.

Last week paid was 4/28/12 and on the claim stub it says, "claim expires 3/10/12." I don't understand why it says claim expired if I'm still receiving benefits? Not that I'm complaining, I just don't understand.

The claim stub then goes on to say, "Your claim balance after this payment is $450.00." What does this mean? Have I exhausted all benefits? At this point I've received 59 weeks of unemployment benefits. So does this mean I have one last check coming and I'm done?

I checked out the EDD website and looked at the 4 tier system but this is my first time on unemployment and it's a little confusing. I just need a little clarification. It says that if you filed before May 13, 2012, EUC tier 3 up to 13 weeks, EUC tier 4 up to 6 weeks, FED-ED up to 20 weeks.

But I heard the FED-ED is being discontinued for certain people. I don't know what category I fall in. When they say, "Filed before May 13, 2012" do they mean people who filed their initial claim before May 13, 2012, in which I would qualify? Or are they referring to people who filed their extended claims, in which I may not qualify?

I need clarification and this forum seems to be my only hope. I tried calling EDD over and over and over again and their lines are jammed every time. Jobs are scarce and I have a family to take care of. I need to know if I will receive a check to pay for next months rent.

Thank you so much Ariadne22! I feel like I can breathe now. I've read many of your posts and your help is invaluable.

So from here, I'll try and get a hold of EDD and ask them to re-certify the claim.

And I know you're busy and I really appreciate your time but I would like a little clarification on the other question, when they say, "If you filed before May 13, 2012, EUC tier 3 up to 13 weeks, EUC tier 4 up to 6 weeks, FED-ED up to 20 weeks." Are they referring to people who filed their initial claim before May 13, 2012? Or are they referring to people who filed extended claims before May 13, 2012?

The reason I ask is so that, in case I am unable to land a job, I can have a clear understanding of how many weeks of tier 3, tier 4 and FED-ED will or will not be available.

Thank you so much for your time!

The date is only relevant to new claimants as of 5/12/12. They will receive:

26 wks - state benefits
08 wks - EUC Tier 1

All EUC payments end 12/29, so CA is saying anyone filing this year can't receive more than however many weeks remain in 2012 when they file.

Since you have effectively completed your state benefits and Tiers 1 and 2 when you next claim, you have remaining 13 weeks Tier 3 and 10 weeks Tier IV (if you begin Tier 4 after September 2, otherwise it is 6 weeks).

All EUC payments end December 29th. So, count your weeks.

One more thing. I just reread your post. Your claim expired 3/10/12. CA has automatically recertified your claim and is continuing to pay the tiers from your old claim which is why the expiration date reads 3/10/2012. You don't need to call to recertify.

Just keep claiming. California will continue to transition you through the tiers.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much. I've spent hours and hours trying to get in contact with EDD and when I do I seem to get every run around answer in the book. I've spent countless hours doing research and when it's all said and done, I learned everything I needed to know right here with you.

So thank you very much for your time, your patience and your concise and timely response!!

I don't know if you believe in God, but, God bless you
