Hello i am a wondering if i am allowed to receive unemployment. I am a construction worker and work at a Oil Refinery. The refinery is going through a Oil out where they are taking all the oil out of the lines for a big shutdown. But because of this everyone in my trade is told we are not working for 1-2 weeks. I am wondering if i am allowed to collect unemployment because i will not be working for 1-2 weeks an wasnt given any layoff papers. Would this be underemployment?
You left out some key details like if you'll be getting vacation pay during the closure or if this is a planned outage that is done all the time, but generally, if the employer is not letting you come to work, then go file immediately for UI.
If it's only 1 week, you probably won't get any money, but it will set up a claim and cover a waiting week so if they pull this stunt again, you'll be ready. If it's 2 weeks, you'll get at least one check.
I think we had someone else discuss this and the info I was told was 12 weeks out of 52 or something is considered layoff not just a temporary work shortage.
I dont know though. If you are laid off for a couple of weeks I hope they get you back to work asap. Better for you and your family they only have 2 weeks shortage than be laid off and collect measly unemployment.
i am not getting vacation funds. I am a construction worker an this isnt my permanent job at this oil refinery i picked it up to work an when the job is done i go back to my union hall an wait for the next job to come along.
The contractor is not letting us come to work as they get all the oil out of the lines an they dont know the exact date we can return. Who could live 12 weeks temp work shortage i am struggling thinking of 2 weeks with out a paycheck an i am at home not doing anything.
I am goin to file my unemployment tomorrow an if they accept they accept if not they dont.
