I wasn't needed for the transition so I don't have to worry about the temp agency dilemma. I've already filed my initial claim online. I'll check back on the website tomorrow to see what else I need to do. But for now at least my claim has been filed

What a relief that you don't have to make that awful decision.

Should they call you for a phone interview to get details, do not mention anything about the temp position. Your company closed and your position eliminated; that's all.

I have and they suck. They are known to fight paying unemployment benefits, they will try to offer you work elsewhere, probably at much lower pay with an insane commute and when you turn it down they will use it for justification to fight having to pay for unemployment. They will lie to the when the state investigates your claim, they are very sneaky about it and know the system far better than you do.

I hope that my friends who stayed through the transition don't have the problems you describe with the temp agency. It was all such a shock and with it happening over the holidays I am sure they were just grateful to still have a paycheck for a little while longer.

I filed my first bi-weekly claim this week. I signed up for insurance through healthcare.gov before the end of the year so my coverage started Jan. 1. I have an appointment with a career counselor through my college later this week. I didn't realize how much of my self identity was tied to my job -- been feeling a little lost so now I am moving forward with life. Hoping I have a new job before unemployment benefits run out!

Thank you all for replying to my post. Any of you who are still unemployed I hope that you find something soon!
