Yes, of course they would, because you leaving is a claim against their Unemployment Insurance. Too many of them, and their premiums rise, just like claims on car insurance.

"Ignoring Celesteren's belief, doing what that person suggests is just like working for free,"

Seriously, Chyvan? Did you find it necessary to put my opinion down before giving your own? That's rhetorical, by the way. It just makes me sad.

I did. People need to know the economics of part-time work when UI is on the table. I was faced with a fact pattern similar to the ops. I'd have been grossing $280 per week when I could collect $240/wk on UI. I'd have grossed an extra $40 for 20 hours of work = $2/hr. Then factor in commute expenses, the different tax treatment, that I'd have been mad at work and teetering on the brink of a misconduct firing, and I'd have been giving up 20 hours/wk of my life for less than I'd get on UI. The real winner would have been my employer that was putting me through the wringer.

You've most likely never experienced this situation so your advice that "it's easier to get a job while you're still working," doesn't work for everyone, and personally, I don't believe it's true. With all the bars to employment now like credit checks, background checks, and educational requirements that probably aren't really essential, and companies are probably taking any warm body they can find nowadays. There's only so many superstar employees to go around.

Why not just admit like you did in the other thread that you believe if you can get it for free you shouldn't have to work?

Because people need to know the math, but yeah, I'm not working for about what I can get paid to do next nothing.
